Outback QLD, an odd future indeed.

29 AUG 2026

Aboard the Spirit of the Outback - somewhere along the Drummond Range, Queensland

Home? Really?

26/8/26

System overload, electrifying, waves and pulses.
Decaying carriage, locomotive, a state of wander.
The mind playing tricks, in itself I gasp then return,
Inexplicable, the shifting, on a dime, a runaway freight, derailed, somber.

Turmoil ahead, or how I imagine it. Nonsensical, never factual.
Does precedent mean anything? Yes, no. What have I become,
Worrysome, comparative, perfectionist, exhausted, helplessly glum.
The static persists, 200km east of a Labor's genesis, a call to arms; can oneself enact?

Reflection of potential, youthful exuberance, gratuitous whiplash, perpetual maze,
Simultaneous regret, present perspective, insecurity, clouded future..
Why can't we sit still, absolved of guilt, of burden, a rightward gaze.
Dusty red, green, parched country, rugged, Australiana, ever so pure!

Heartache and pain needn't cloud my appreciation,
For the now, the present - not an optical illusion.
The raw, arid land; I thought I had seen it all...
30 hours on an airbus to quality for perspective, in the eyes of this nation?

It only ever led to a soulless, baseless confusion.

This rogue, expansive dustbowl, it feeds the soul,
I couldn't have envisioned it a decade ago, sights set on the N5, greenwich mean time.
A neurotic unbeliever, destiny self-inflicted,
I'm almost home and safe now, yet nowhere near how I pictured.
